Understanding head injury and awareness are essential in starting to treat a concussion.
Understanding head injury and awareness are essential in starting to treat a concussion. The workshop held at Mount Royal University on August 11th & 12th was well received and attended. The focus was on the treatment of concussion along with neuroanatomy, presented by Dr. Corey Deacon MSc, DNM, CFMP, BCN, BCAMP, BCHHP, RTN, Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner Fellow of Anti-aging Regenerative and Functional Medicine (FAARFM) Candidate, Board-Certified Neurofeedback Clinician, Neuroscientist, Board-Certified Doctorate of Natural Medicine, Board-Certified Alternative Medicine Practitioner, Registered Traditional Naturopath.
The following chart is part of Dr. Deacon’s PowerPoint presentation. It shows what happens after a head injury: inflammation, axonal damage, cellular damage, membrane disruption, cellular death (apoptosis), oxidative stress, hypermetabolism, and hypometabolism. A lot more is going on than just a bump to the head. Head injuries change cell structure and metabolism, which can lead to weight gain in women, retention of fluid, memory loss, loss of muscle mass and balance.
There are several levels of head injury. This is the traditional view. Let’s look deeper. Type 4 looks at how the entire body is affected.
Symptoms do not have to appear right after head injury.
Dr. Bryan Mallindine was visiting from California and dropped by to share his expertise on laser therapy and light therapy for concussion here is a review.
Light and laser therapy is a gentle was to help heal the brain and very effective.
Did you know the Nitric Oxide is crucial to repair.
Nitric Oxide production is decreased after head injury during oxidative stress.
Health care practitioners and athletic therapists learned the 7 Step Protocol and practiced on each other as well as two children who were in a motor vehicle accidents.
